PURPOSE:To prevent an outdoor side finned aluminum heat exchanger from freezing by a structure wherein the pitch of the fins at the lower part of the outdoor side heat exchanger is made coarser so as to prevent the surface tension from applying and not to make droplets adhered to the heat exchanger stagnant at the lower part of the heat exchanger. CONSTITUTION:During heating operation, an outdoor side heat exchanger 1 acts as an evaporator and dew is formed on the surfaces of fins. The dew increases its size into droplets, which flow downwards by gravity between the fins in the course as indicated with the dot and dash arrow. When the droplets reach the lower end, the droplets fall to a base plate 2 side, because the pitch of fins at the lower part of the outdoor side heat exchanger 1 is made coarser and consequently no surface tension acts across the fins. Accordingly, no stagnation of water occurs at the lower end part of the outdoor side heat exchanger 1, resulting in causing to freeze no water at the lower end of the outdoor side heat exchanger, even when the temperature of the fins of the evaporator turns to be 0 deg.C. |
