PURPOSE:To obtain a gas having high octane number in high yield with accumulating a small amount of coke, by bringing a specific olefin gas (blended with paraffin gas) into contact with a catalyst consisting of a specific zeolite and aluminum fluoride under heating. CONSTITUTION:A raw material gas consisting of 2-5C olefin gas or a mixture of it and 1-5C paraffin gas is brought into contact with a catalyst consisting of a dealkalization-type zeolite (preferable example, ZSM-5, ZSM-11, mordenite, Y type, faujasite) and aluminum fluoride preferably in the presence of hydrogen under heating, to give a gas having high octane number.
