The device serves for producing at least one labelling of a flat printing carrier. It has an electronic printing mechanism which is connected to a data input and storage unit. The electronic printing mechanism has a shaft which receives the printing carrier and is provided with a conveyor which moves the printing carrier in its printing plane. The printing carrier is clamped in the shaft between a clamping plate, which is movable substantially perpendicular to the printing plane, and a platen facing the printing carrier. With the platen the printing carrier forms contact lines lying in the printing plane. The clamping plate can run substantially parallel to the printing plane and rest against a surface of the printing carrier facing away from the printing plane.
