The bodies of internal mixers for example Banbury mixers have heretofore been constructed with side members (14) defining parts of the double-cylindrical mixing chamber secured to end members (12) by bolts extending through flanges integral with the side members which have also been reinforced by ribs. The side members (14) are of C-shape cross-section. End portions (20) thereof being received in complementary recesses (22) in the end members (12) and having upper edge portions (32) abutting a stop member (28) to prevent rotation of the side members (14). This simplified construction cuts manufacturing costs and gives improved thermal characteristics while simplifying dismantling of the mixer body and replacement of various worn parts.
