The subject matter of the invention is a method for determining the starting point for rounding turning in the lathe turning of veneers. In lathe turning, the cutting edge sets for the initial stage in the lathe turning of a new block are brought to a readiness position, and at the start of the lathe turning the cutting edge sets are run with a rapid feed from the readiness position to a starting point for the round turning. During the rapid feed the vibration intensity of the cutting edge sets is monitored, this information being used to determine the starting position for the round turning.
