The invention relates to a defensive weapon and articles of defence, such as a businessman's briefcase, an umbrella or a stick, equipped, combined or incorporated with a weapon for the release of non-fatal asphyxiating gas or with a system for the propagation of very loud noise, in order to assist people in defending themselves against an assailant by neutralising him, comprising, where the weapon is concerned, a cylindrical tube made of reinforced steel, a strong spring, a cylinder containing the gas and having two membranes, a cutting projectile, a safety plug and a pull cord or screw-type or key-type release; as regards the articles of defence, a main article, namely the briefcase, umbrella or stick, with this weapon incorporated or in combination, or incorporated with a noise-propagating system. The essential feature of the invention makes it possible, where the weapon is concerned, to store a non-fatal asphyxiating gas in a tube, with a system for triggering fire and for the instantaneous release of the gas defined above, and as regards the articles of defence, the use of this article for concealing or incorporating the abovementioned weapon or a siren or alarm system operating by electrical battery.
