A bypass valve with an electro-optical indicator is disclosed which has a piston which is inserted in a sliding manner in a through-bore of a housing and via the end faces of which a certain pressure drop from a hydraulic system is applied and which, at a corresponding value determined by a spring, is displaced by this pressure difference in such a way that it opens a connection between an inlet connection and an outlet connection of the bypass valve. Inserted in a sliding manner in the piston is a plunger, via the ends of which the said pressure drop is likewise applied and which is displaced by this pressure drop in such a way that, upon reaching a certain pressure drop as a function of the dimensioning of a spring, it touches an electrical contact and thereby earths the latter.
