PURPOSE:To perform monochromatic recording without need to replace an ink medium or add a black ink layer, by a method wherein color inks are thermally transferred to a thermal recording layer provided on one side of a recording paper on the basis of subtractive color mixture in accordance with recording data, in a thermal transfer type color recorder. CONSTITUTION:The recording paper 1 is supplied so that the thermal recording layer 13 is brought to the side of an ink layer 21 of a sheet form color ink medium 2. While pressing the medium 2 and the paper 1 between a recording head 3 and a platen 4 and feeding them in a sub-scanning direction, thermal transfer is conducted in an arbitrary color ink in accordance with monochromatic image recording data DB. Simultaneously, the layer 13 is brought into color development to obtain a monochromatic image MI. The medium 2 is provided with color ink layers of yellow, magenta and cyan based on subtractive color mixture, each of the color ink layers having a recording capacity for one page and provided on a surface-to-surface basis. Since an arbitrary ink 6 based on subtractive color mixture is transferred onto a developed black color part 5 of the recording paper 1, the part becomes black in color. |
