PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a modifier for a beta-lactam agent by one stage reaction inexpensively and simply, by reacting an amidine with sulfur and carbon disulfide in the presence of a base. CONSTITUTION:An amidine derivative shown by the formula I (R is lower alkyl) or its salt is reacted with sulfur and carbon disulfide in the presence of a base (e.g., NaOH) preferably in a solvent (e.g., dichloromethane) at 0-150 deg.C, to give the aimed compound shown by the formula II. An amount of the base used is >=an equimolar amount based on the amidine derivative, preferably 2-4mol based on 1mol amidine derivative, and ethanediamine, propanediamine, butanediamine, etc. may be cited as the amidine derivative shown by the formula I, and sulfur in the form of powder, granular crystal, colloidal state, flower of sulfur, etc. can be used as the sulfur.
