PURPOSE:To prevent light for erasure from entering an image readout part and to obtain a compact device by providing a means which carries accumulating fluorescent material sheets in the opening part of an erasure part equipped with a light source for erasure and also carries them out. CONSTITUTION:An accumulative fluorescent material sheet 150 on which a radiation image is recorded at a photographing part 16 is sent to a readout part 62 through a roller 20, guides 24, 26, and 28, and endless belts 30, 32, and 36 to make a scan with light from a laser light source 64 and read accelerated phosphorescence by a photomultiplier tube 70. The sheet 150 is passed through conveyor belts 38 and 40 and guide members 44 and 46 and clamped between nip rollers 116a and 116b; when the roller 116b is elevated against the tensile force of a coil spring 120a, a microswitch 126 operates to turn a motor 130 and the rollers 116b are rotated through a chain 136 and a sprocket 138 to carry the sheet 150 to the opening part of the erasure unit 100. Then, the switch 120a returns to stop the motor 130 and erasure is carried out by the erasing light source.
