PURPOSE:To recover a solution containing valuable components such as high- purity alkali hydrosulfide, alkali carbonate, etc., by an inexpesive and easy treatment, by reacting a specific waste liquid of alkali with an alkali bicarbonate. CONSTITUTION:A waste liquid of alkali containing an alkali sulfide and alkali carbonate in combination with an alkali hydrosulfide, caustic alkali and/or alkali soluble organic material is added with powderly or slurry alkali bicarbonate, and is made to react at normal temperature -65 deg.C to effect the suffucient separation of the alkali-soluble organic material and to obtain a solution containing highly pure alkali hydrosulfide and alkali carbonate preventing the generation of H2S. The amount of the alkali bicarbonate added to the waste liquid is 85-100% of the amount necessary to form an alkali carbonate from the alkali sulfide and/or the caustic alkali contained in the waste liquid.
