PURPOSE:To provide the titled manganese oxide containing gamma-MnO2 and enstite as main crystal structure, having specific composition and physical properties, etc. having high activity and excellent heavy discharge performance especially under a low resistance condition, and available at a low cost. CONSTITUTION:The objective manganese oxide for dry cell has a composition characterized by (i) a manganese dioxide content of >=88%, (ii) a potassium content of <=0.2%, (iii) content of other metallic elements of <=0.2%, and (iv) crystallization water content of >=1.5%, (v) contains gamma-MnO and enstite as main crystal structure, (vi) hs a bulk density of 1.6g/cm<3>, (vii) contains pores having diameter of >=0.05mu as >=50% of the pores having diameter of <=1mu, and (viii) exhibits an X-ray diffraction pattern shown as the curve (a) (the top curve) in the figure. |
