The device has three marking plates and three optical readers for generating information representing a real position of corner inserts of a window pane and a gusset relative to a jig. A memory stores information representing an optimal position of the inserts relative to the jig. A display device displays an order of displacement of the pane and gusset based on comparison of the information with each other by a comparison unit. An independent claim is also included for a method of assisting fixation of a window pane and a gusset on a frameless door of a motor vehicle.
