PURPOSE:To make the charge storage time of a line image sensor constant and increase an image readout speed by controlling the turn-on timing of a light source. CONSTITUTION:A shift pulse SP is outputted from a control part which controls a motor for driving a running body RM every time the running body RM moves by one step of subscanning after reaching a subscanning start position, and a turn-on signal SL is obtained by operating a monostable multivibrator circuit which generates pulses with, for example, pulse width Tl in synchronism with the leading edge of the shift pulse. The turn-on signal SL, therefore, rises on the start of the charge storage of an unmagnification sensor after the shift pulse SP is outputted, turning on a light source 1 for a specific time Tl. Consequently, an image signal SC outputted from the unmagnification sensor 3 is controlled to a specific level on each readout line RL. Therefore, the unmagnification sensor 3 is only operated once every time the running body moves by one step in the subscanning direction.
