PURPOSE:To control easily the thickness of an alumite film to be used for surface hardening of a magnetic disk to a prescribed value by oxidizing an aluminum film to form the alumite film on an antioxidizing film, polishing the alumite film by prescribed quantity and forming a magnetic film on such film. CONSTITUTION:A sputtered film of gold is formed as the antioxidizing film 6 to, for example, >=1mum on the surface of a base material (figure b). The aluminum film 5 deposited by evaporation is then formed to a prescribed thickness t3 (figure c) and is then anodized to form the alumite film 2 from the film 5 (figure d). The surface of the film 2 is thereafter polished by the prescribed polishing quantity with the prescribed surface accuracy to form a substrate hardened layer 3 and the magnetic film 4 such as, for example, gamma-Fe2O3 film is formed by sputtering thereon by which the magnetic disk shown in the figure (e) is obtd. The thickness t1 of the film 2 is controlled constant by the film 6 in the above-mentioned manner and further the polishing quantity of the tilm 2 is made constant at t1-t2, by which the layer 3 having the thickness controlled to the specified value t2 is relatively easily obtd.
