PURPOSE:To produce a color filter for a liquid crystal display device which has excellent properties such as heat resistance and weatherability and has a highly accurate pattern by fixing a dye to an active film layer consisting of activated alumina or activated silica. CONSTITUTION:Colloidal alumina, collidal silica or a mixture composed thereof is coated on the surface of a transparent glass substrate and is dried and calcined to form an active film layer on the substrate. A metal mask having the prescribed pattern is imposed on the active film layer and a transfer sheet having an ink layer contg. a sublimable dye or/and a dye which evaporates on thermal melting is imposed thereon and is heated to transfer thermally the dye in the ink layer into the fine pores in the active film layer. The transfer sheet is constituted with a base sheet consisting of a film of a high-polymer material having heat resistance, etc. and the ink layer consiting of the dye and binder, etc. Such process is repeated plural times according to the required number of colors. An overcoat layer consisting of a hard and highly transparent resin such as acryl or polyimide is finally provided thereon. |
