PURPOSE:To obtain a comparator which is capable of an optional array of digits by outputting each state of the lower digits to the upper parts when coincidence is obtained between two inputs and each state of own digits in case no coincidence is obtained between both inputs respectively. CONSTITUTION:A comparator 200 for a digit of binary number which is capable of a multi-stage array is provided with a circuit 111 that detects the dissidence between two input binary numbers An and Bn supplied to input terminals A'n and B'n, a circuit 112 that detects the coincidence between both input binary numbers and a transfer gate circuit 113. The transfer gates 106-108 and 110 are turned off when the numbers An and Bn are equal to 1 and 0 respectively (An>Bn) together with gates 105 and 109 turned on respectively. Then 1 and 0 are outputted to carry terminals CAon and CBon respectively. While 0 and 1 are outputted to said output terminals CAon and CBon respectively in the case of An<Bn. Then the values of carry input terminals CAin and CBin are outputted to the terminals CAon and CBon respectively with An=Bn.
