NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I (R<1> is lower alkyl; R<2> is lower alkyloxy or lower alkylthio). EXAMPLE:(Z)-7-[alpha-( 2-Amino-4-thiazolyl )-alpha-methoxyiminoacetamido]-3-(3-amino-4- methoxypyridiniomethyl)-DELTA<3>-cephem-4-carboxylate. USE:An antimicrobial agent, capable of exhibiting improved effect particularly on Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, and useful as an additive and preservative for feed. PREPARATION:A 7-amino-3-halogenomethyl-DELTA<3>-cephem-4-carboxylic acid expressed by formula II (X is halogen) is reacted with an N,O-bis(trilower alkylsilyl)trifluoroacetamide expressed by formula III (R<3> is lower alkyl) and a di- substituted pyridine expressed by formula IV (R<4> is H or protecting group of the amino group), and the resultant product is then reacted with a substituted oxyiminothiazolylacetic acid expressed by formula V. The protecting group is removed if necessary to give the aimed compound expressed by formula I.
