PURPOSE:To prepare hyaluronic acid containing no streptolysin, by cultivating an anhemolytic strain belonging to the genus Streptococcus, capable of producing hyaluronic acid. CONSTITUTION:An anhemolytic strain [e.g., anhemolytic variant NH-131 (FERM- P 7580) of Streptococcus zooepidemicus] belonging to the genus Streptococcus, capable of producing hyaluronic acid, is inoculated into a medium containing a carbon source, inorganic salt, nitrogen source, and a very small amount of organic nutrient, and cultivated aerobically at 5.5-9.0pH at 30-37 deg.C. After a mold and an insoluble component in the culture solution are removed, proteins, low- molecular substances existing in the solution are removed, and hyaluronic acid containing no streptolysin is obtained. |
