For the recording and/or reading of magnetic tracks in a magnetic tape apparatus with a rotary head wheel (1) displaced transversely with respect to the unwinding direction of the tape and on which are arranged 2n magnetic heads (K), the rotary head wheel is moved by a control by means of an electromagnetic converter (3) in the direction of its rotational axis.
