PURPOSE:To obtain a system for making input work efficient by inputting a shape like a free sketch at the input of a drawing and then inputting its size. CONSTITUTION:At the 1st stage, the visible outline 1 of a previously defined graphic, horizontal auxiliary lines 2, 3 defined in accordance with the line 1 and vertical auxiliary lines 4, 5 are dispalyed on a screen. If a straight line 6 is newly defined, the operator specifies a start point 7 and an end point 8. Although the start point 7 is defined on the horizontal auxiliary line 2 because the start point 7 is close to the line 2, a system generates a vertical auxiliary line 9 newly because the start point 7 does not exist close to any vertical auxiliary lines. Since no auxiliary lines exist close to the end point, the system generates a vertical auxiliary line 9 and a horizontal auxiliary line 11. At the 2nd stage, the real size for the logical shape defined at the 1st stage is applied. Consequently, a real shape is defined by applying the X coordinates of respective vertical auxiliary linea and the Y coordinates of respective horizontal auxiliary lines.
