PURPOSE:To obtain zeolite suitable for use as a catalyst for a methanol conversion reaction when the titled zeolite is manufactured by refluxing an aqueous soln. contg. starting materials under heating, by specifying the molar ratio of SiO2/H2O and continuing a reaction for a prescribed time. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous soln. contg. a silica source such as silica sol, an alumina source such as Al(NO3)3.9H2O, an alkali source such as NaOH and a quat. alkylammonium salt such as tetra-n-propylammonium bromide is prepd. The molar ratio of SiO2/H2O in the soln. is adjusted to 5-20, and >=about 50 ratio of SiO2/A2O3, about 0.1-0.5 ratio of OH<->/SiO2 and about 0.01-0.2 ratio of NH4<+>/SiO2 are satisfied. The aqueous soln. is charged into a reactor provided with a reflux condenser, and it is refluxed under heating at about 80-120 deg.C with stirring for about 6-13 days. The resulting solid matter is taken out and dried to obtain an aggregate of ZSM-5 type zeolite microcrystals of submicron order.
