The exhaust pipe (2), which ejects hot exhaust gases (4), for example from an internal-combustion engine, is coaxially surrounded by a cooling-medium pipe (1). The outer edge of the cooling-medium pipe (1) projects beyond the outer edge of the exhaust pipe (2) and is additionally curved at its end part so that the heat radiation of the exhaust pipe (2) is in shadow, from the outside, from the point of view of visual observation. Between the two pipes (1, 2) there flows a cold airflow (3) which is produced, for example, by a fan (5) and sheaths the hot exhaust gases (4) not only in the cooling-medium pipe (1) but also for a further distance after they emerge. The curvature of the cooling-medium pipe (1) additionally prevents the hot exhaust gases heating a stationary object after they emerge, which object could emit heat rays which can be detected by infrared viewing apparatuses. <IMAGE> |
