PURPOSE:To detect positional information of characteristic obtained from a picture at high speed by providing a histogram processor that can detect positional information of appearance of characteristic by hardware parallel with operation of a labeling means. CONSTITUTION:A histogram memory 710 reads data of address M and outputs from DOUT output as histogram read data 711. As maximum value, i.e. (2N-1) is set by initializing of the histogram memory 710 in a system control mode, this value becomes the histogram read data 711 in this case, and inputted to A input of an arithmetic unit 720. The arithmetic unit 720 compares the values of A input and B input, and outputs smaller value from Y output. As B input becomes always smaller than A input, a write address 104, i.e. B input is selected here, and outputted from the arithmetic unit 720.
