PURPOSE:To execute muting completely without forming a specific muting circuit by executing muting on the basis of a channel selection control signal at the generation of an echo. CONSTITUTION:A CATV signal inputted from a cable is distributed to a CATV converter 3 and a receiver 1 by a distributor 2 and the output of the converter 3 is inputted to a TV receiver 4. A reproducer 8 in the receiver 1 outputs a digital signal and a PCM decoder 11 sends a pulse code-modulated digital signal to a D/A converter 12 and also outputs word error detection and channel selection reference clock signals CK1-CK3. The analog signal converted by the converter 12 is sampled and held by a sample and hold circuit 14 through a switching means 13. The signals CK1-CK3 are processed by channel selection control means 17, 19 and a switching means 13 is controlled by the output of the means 19. Muting is executed on the basis of a channel selection control signal at the generation of an echo and a specific muting circuit can be omitted.
