PURPOSE:To reduce the manhour of manufacturing of a muffler and as well to enhance the finishing accuracy and aethetic appearance of the muffler, by forming a spiral groove in the inner peripheral wall of an outer cylinder at pitches substantially equal to that of a spiral partition plate, and by threadedly engaging the outer peripheral edge of the partition plate in the groove in the outer cylinder. CONSTITUTION:The outer peripheral edge of a spiral partition plate 3 having pitches of P is engaged in a groove 12a which are formed in the inner peripheral wall of an outer cylinder 12, spirally at pitches of P. Upon manufacturing of a muffler the spiral partition plate 3 is at first wound on an inner cylinder 1 and then is welded thereto at 4b. Then the inner cylinder 1 onto which the partition plate 3 is secured is screwed into the groove 12 in the outer cylinder 12 so that outer peripheral edge 3a of the partition plate 3 is fitted in the groove 12a. Thus, the manufacturing of the muffler is completed. With this arrangement, the inner cylinder 1 including the partition plate 3 may be made removable, and therefore, it facilitate the cleaning of a bypass passage B. Further, the outer cylinder 12 may be formed in one unit body so that it is possible to prevent fluid from externally leaking from the outer cylinder, and further since there are no projections of weldment on the outer peripheral surface of the outer cylinder 12 so that it is possible to enhance the aesthetic appearance thereof. |
