PURPOSE:The titled additive which can decrease an amt. of particulates in the exhaust gas of a diesel engine, which comprises a specified polyoxyethylene compd. CONSTITUTION:0.01-2.0wt% polyoxyethylene compd. of formula I [wherein X is R or formula II (wherein R is 12-18C alkyl or alkenyl); Y is H or -(CH2CH2O)b- H; a is 2-15 when Y is H; when Y is -(CH2CH2O)b-H, a and b are each a positive integer provided that a+b=2-15] and, if necessary, a cetane value improver, antioxidant, metal deactivator, corrosion inhibitor, etc. are added as additives to diesel gas oil boiling at 180-380 deg.C.
