PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound from methanol and/or methyl ether at high temperature stably for a long period in high selectivity, by using a catalyst prepared by modifying a specific alkaline earth metal-containing zeolite with a specified amount of alkaline earth metal compound. CONSTITUTION:The titled compound is obtained by bringing methanol and/or dimethyl ether into contact with a catalyst in a gaseous phase at 0.1-20hr<-1> weight time space velocity at 300-650 deg.C at total pressure of 0.1-100 atomospheric pressure for a long time in high yield without causing abrupt deterioration of the catalyst. The catalyst is obtained by subjecting a raw material satisfying a specific composition to hydrothermal treatment at 80-200 deg.C to give zeolite that gives calcined zeolite having a composition shown by the formula (M is alkali metal or H; M' is alkaline earth metal; a=0-1.5; b=0.2-40, c= 12-3,000; n=0-4), bringing the zeolite into contact with an alkaline earth metal compound in a solution or a solid state, so that >=0.25wt% calculated as metal of the alkaline earth metal is supported on or blended with the zeolite is modified. |
