PURPOSE:To obtain the titled material giving a molded article having remarkably improved Charpy impact strength, by compounding a base resin with an organic fiber having high tensile strength. CONSTITUTION:A material for compression molding or transfer molding is obtained by compounding 100pts.wt. of a phenolic resin and/or a modified phenolic resin with 20-150pts.wt. of an organic fiber having a tensile strength of >=6g/denier. The (modified) phenolic resin is a novolac or resol resin having a solubility parameter of 9.0-11.0 or 11.0-15.0, and is preferably a benzylic ether phenolic resin, ammonia resol-type phenolic resin, bisphenol-A-modified phenolic resin, aniline-modified phenolic resin, etc. The organic fiber is polyvinyl alcohol fiber, polyamide fiber or polyester fiber.
