PURPOSE:To improve the waveform of an output voltage and to detect surely the position of information by providing a magnetism-shielding material between a magnetoresistance effect element and a magnetic recording medium facing said element. CONSTITUTION:The magnetism-shielding material 14 provided between the MR element 4 and the magnetic recording medium 9 facing the element prevents the influence of the magnetic flux leaking from the medium 9 on the element 4 and is formed of a ferromagnetic material such as ferrite. The magnetic flux leaking from a magnetization transition region 10 draws a closed loop as shown by arrows in the material 14 on account of the presence of such material 14 even in the position of the region 10 past the position above a magnetic gap 3. The taking of the leaking magnetic flux into the element 4 is thus obviated. The waveform of the output voltage from the magnetoresistance effect is thereby improved and the thin film magnetic head which can detect distinctly the position of information is obtd. |
