PURPOSE:To prepare a filter element having an increased surface area of filter paper contained in a specified space by constituting the bellows part stretchably in the axial direction. CONSTITUTION:A sheet of filter paper is formed to a disc 2 by blanking the paper to obtain a doughnut or polygonal shape in a blanking stage A. After bonding the inside periphery of the disc to the outside periphery alternately by processing it in a stage B for applying an adhesive agent, a stage C for folding, a stage D for compression, and a stage E for drying, the product is further processed in a cutting stage F, G, a stage H for fitting end plates 5, 5a, and a stage I for stretching the disc 2 obtd. in the stage H by a specified extent to form bellows and attaching fixedly a reinforcing cylinder 6 to the end plates 5, 5a. Thus, the filtration area to be contained in a specified space is increased and the filtration efficiency is improved, and a filter device is miniaturized. The stage G is not always necessary. The continuous part 3 may be in an outwardly protruded state, also.
