The invention relates to a separate communications system in which the subscribers (Tln) are connected via a point-to-multipoint radio relay network to a central station (ZS). A structure which is as simple and economical as possible is intended to be achieved for a communications system of this type. For this purpose, the invention provides that, based on time division multiplex technology (TDM), a connection is set up in burst mode in the baseband or on the intermediate frequency between the receiving end and the transmitting end of the central station (ZS) and all received signals are retransmitted to the external stations (AS) in time division multiplex at a different frequency. The switching functions are provided by organisational measures which, in the case of the radio relay stations, intervene from TDMA devices to which the subscribers (Tln) are connected. <IMAGE>
