The invention relates to a process for isomerising 2-, 3- or 4-chlorotoluene or a mixture of these on a zirconium-containing, pentasil-type zeolite catalyst. Such catalysts are distinguished by a particularly high activity while having a long service life. The invention particularly relates to the preparation of a mixture of 3- and 4-chlorotoluene by isomerising 2-chlorotoluene on zirconium-containing, pentasil-type zeolite catalysts.
