In a false-twist crimping machine, the transmission of the twist is monitored. For this purpose, the thread runs over a cylindrical run-over body, round which the thread is partially looped. A running zone marking the thread run in the desired mode of operation and, next to it, a monitoring zone are formed on the run-over body. In the event of faults in the transmission of the twist, the thread travels out of the running zone into the monitoring zone. The fault is thereby signalled. The monitoring zone can consist of a cutting device in the form of a notch which catches the thread.
