PURPOSE:To prevent a mirror housing from being damaged and so forth, due to shocking returning of the mirror housing, by allowing the base end of a spring to come off upon tilting of a rearview mirror. CONSTITUTION:When a mirror housing is subjected to a great force from the front thereof, a coil spring 22 is extended so that it rotates rearward. During the initial stage of this rotation a connecting link 14 also rotates about a first rotating support shaft 5 as a center while it extends the coil spring 22. When the link further rotates, the base side end of a stopper surface 17 in a spring retainer section 19 approaches the front end of a locking section 21, and then a receiving surface 18 and the locking section 21 are lined up. Therefore, the hook section 25 of the coil spring 22 which has till then been inhibited by the stopper surface 17 from moving, moves toward the receiving surface 18, and engages thereto. Accordingly, in this stage there no force attracting the mirror housing to the base 2, thereby the tilting condition of the mirror housing may be maintained.
