A headlight for emitting a light beam with a light/dark boundary has a reflector, a light source, a collecting lens and a dipping shield (E) with an upper light beam boundary rim (11). The reflector, the lens and the shield (E) are mounted on one and the same holder (5), and the shield (E) is suspended in a carrier (8), which is an integrating component of the holder (5), by means of an auxiliary piece (9). The carrier (8), the shield (E) and the auxiliary suspending piece (9) have relative dimensions and temperature coefficients such that irrespective of the changes in temperature caused by operation, the boundary rim (11) of the shield (E) maintains a constant position relative to the optical axis. <IMAGE>
