PURPOSE:To manufacture a boron compound having a low impurity content by reacting boron oxide with a transition metal when the boron oxide is reduced. CONSTITUTION:Ca or Mg is mixed with boron oxide and an iron group metal so that boron oxide is contained in 1/>=3mol ratio of boron oxide to Ca or Mg, and the mixture is heated to >=700 deg.C. The boron oxide is reduced, the boride of the iron group metal is formed, and the mixture is melted. The metallic boride is recovered from the lower part of the resulting melt. Thus, the metallic boride contg. little impurities used for amorphous metal can be manufactured without using expensive pure boron.
