In a vehicle roof having a roof cover which can be raised into at least one ventilation position, in particular however a vehicle roof equipped with a tiltable sliding roof in which a wedge-shaped gap is produced between the roof cover which can be raised out of its closed position in which it rests in the roof plane into the ventilation position between the general plane of the vehicle roof and the extended roof cover, and lateral covers engage over this wedge-shaped gap, in order to reduce the required installation height of the roof cover arrangement and in order to simplify the fitting, it is proposed that the covers which are arranged on each side of the roof cover consist in each case of an approximately trapezoidal blank of at least semi-rigid material and are connected at the top end by means of a holding strip or hook-shaped holder to the roof cover, and at the bottom end are connected to the vehicle roof by means of a reinforcement strip and a return spring arrangement, the covers being produced preferably from a film-like plastic material and being constructed in each case in a single piece as a preform with reinforcement strips running along their upper and lower longitudinal edges.
