The invention relates to a reception device, especially for hair, intended to permit accepting the swept together material without physical exertion and without danger to hygiene. To this end, the invention provides for an element which circulates inside a casing, is designed as an endless belt in particular, supports resiliant pickup strips and is vertically raised from the floor in the region of a reception aperture in the front wall of the casing by a distance corresponding to the radial extent of the resilient pickup strips. The circulating element, together with the pickup strips and a surface touching the latter, does not just form a constant succession of chambers for conveying swept-in hair, but also forms effective lock chambers at the same time, which ensure that the reception device can be closed off from the surroundings in a hygienically unobjectionable manner.
