PURPOSE:To increase a reading speed and to stabilize the reading action of a color original reader by adding a special filter to a conventional black/white reader and changing the color of the filter just by an electrical operation without producing any mechanical motion. CONSTITUTION:A light source 12 illuminates an original 11 which is scanned toward an arrow head A. A lens system 15 leads the light of the source 12 reflected by the original to an image sensor 14 via a special filter 13. An A/D converter 16 converts the picture signal read by the sensor 14 into the digital signal. A signal correction circuit 17 corrects said picture signal so that it is regenerated with a desirable color at the reception side. A RAM18 stores the corrected picture signal. The filter 13 can read colors successively just with the control of the timing of the signal supplied to a liquid crystal 13B. Thus the reading speed is increased compared with a conventional filter switch type color original reader. In addition, the reading stability is maintained.
