PURPOSE:To obtain a flame retardant composition exhibiting improvement in terms of fineness of grinding, self-cohesiveness, and effect of combined use with antimony trioxide, by finely grinding ammonium chloride or ammonium bromide in the presence of antimony trioxide. CONSTITUTION:Ammonium chloride, ammonium bromide or their mixture is finely ground in the presence of antimony trioxide. Finely powdered antimony trioxide preferably having diameters of 10mum or smaller in general is used in an amount of 5-20mol% of the ammonium halide. The means of finely grinding include those with a grinder and a spray dryer. A grinder will give particle diameters of 74mum (200) or smaller. In a spray dryer, antimony trioxide is dispersed, if necessary, by adding a surface active agent in a solution of the ammonium halide in water, thus giving powders with particle diameters of about 10-100mum. |
