In a sailing boat with a hull which can be steered at the stern by a rudder and a mast secured to the top side of the hull, an accommodating area for the operator is provided in or on the hull. This accommodating area for the operator is arranged at the bow side in front of the mast and is designed as an operating space in such a way that all steering and operating elements are run up to the mast and are located within range of the accommodating area. This ensures a good, unimpeded view for the operator, and the operator is not at risk of being injured by the boom during steering manoeuvres.
