<p>A switch is provided with at least one pair of electric contactors for effecting a switching operation within a container, each contactor being formed of a conductor and a contact secured thereto; light absorbers provided with adjacent surfaces which face each other so as to sandwich from both sides an arc generated when the contacts separate from each other; and a heat absorber arranged so as to face the opening between the adjacent surfaces of the light absorbers, except for the portions of the opening through which the contactors move. The light absorber is made from a single material formed of one element, or a composite material formed of two or more elements, selected from the group of inorganic materials, organic materials and inorganic-organic composite materials, that is, fibrous materials, net materials and porous materials having a porosity of at least 35 %. On the other hand, the heat absorber is made from a material formed of one element, or a composite material formed of two or more elements, selected from the group consisting of small-gage metal wire aggregates, porous metal plates provided with a large number of small holes.</p> |
