A process for the preparation of 1-substituted azetidin-3-ol derivatives of formula:
<Chemistry id="chema01" num="0001"><Image id="ia01" he="21" wi="83" file="IMGA0001.TIF" imgContent="chem" imgFormat="TIFF" inline="no" /></Chemistry>in which R, represents an arylmethyl group, and R<Sub>2</Sub> represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, aryl or aralkyl group in which the alkyl moiety contains up to 8 carbon atoms, by cyclising a solution in triethylamine of an aminoalcohol of formula II
