For joining two elongated plastics bodies, for example two pipes, end-to-end, a sleeve of similar material is pushed over the point where they are to be joined. The two pipes can be bonded to each other by a chemical welding process with a crosslinking agent which is applied at this point by means of the sleeve. Such a bond has virtually the same strength under pressure and heat as the material itself.
