In the forming of workpieces by drop forging, in which the volume of material presented corresponds approximately to the volume of the workpiece to be produced and the length of the forming zone corresponds approximately to the length of the workpiece, the drop forging process is carried out in such a way that the blank is forged in the die (20) over a predetermined part (34) of its length and the remaining, unforged part (33) of the blank is then forged on the other side of the same die (20).
