PURPOSE:To clear the color indentification of an output picture by setting up the digitized slice levels of a three-primary color video signal by steps corresponding to the number of output colors of a printed picture and printing out a color picture consisting of the prescribed number of output colors CONSTITUTION:A video signal VS is converted into a digital value by an A/D converter 1 and the digital signal is stored in a buffer memory 2, read out to a table 4 by a control signal CS from a control circuit and sliced in each previously set up slice level on the table 4. In this case, the slice levels of respective colors are previously written in the table 4 or the slice levels can be optionally changed. The read out signal is converted into an analog value by a D/A converter 5 and the analog signal is supplied to a printer or the like as a picture recording signal PS. Thus, the slice levels corresponding to the number of output colors of the color picture are set up, noise is surely removed and the color identification of the color output picture can be made clear.
