METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR FORMING A PIPE FITTING A method and apparatus for forming a pipe fitting (10 or 20) from formable tubing (11) by stamping is described. The pipe fitting (10 or 20) includes a saddle shaped flared portion (13 or 23) at one end which is formed in the apparatus by first and second die members (100 and 101) coming together along an axis of linear movement (A-A or B-B). The pipe fitting is adapted to be metal bonded, such as by welding and brazing, over a hole (301) in a pipe (300) in order to provide a branch from the pipe (300) and the fitting includes a reinforcing ring (12 or 22) opposite the flared portion (13 or 23) which is usually internally threaded (12a or 23a) for conduit connection. These fittings are particularly adapted for automotive engine use but not limited to this singular application.
