PURPOSE:To enable the repeated use of (NH4)2S as well as to separate efficiently valuable metals from slime produced by the electrolysis of nickel matte by adding a specified amount of an (NH4)2S soln. to the slime, mixing them, and carrying out solid-liq. separation. CONSTITUTION:To slime produced by the electrolysis of nickel matte is added >=100g/l (NH4)2S soln., they are agitated at ordinary temp., and solid-liq. separation is carried out. The resulting solid matter contg. valuable metals separated from sulfur is treated by a known process. The remaining extracting soln. is heated, and generated gas is condensed by cooling, absorbed in ionized water contg. ammonia, and recovered as an aqueous (NH4)2S soln. which is repeatedly used as a leaching soln. By this operation the extracting soln. is concentrated, and solid matter deposited by the concn. is recovered as sulfur.
