The bollard has an external shell (10) housing electrically powered lamps, and is fabricated from a durable plastic with a base plate (14). The latter is fixed to the road by bolts (16) which will shear easily under the impact of a motor vehicle colliding with the bollard. The base of the bollard is reinforced to ensure that the bolts break under impact. - The external walls of the bollard are fitted with translucent panels (20) on which is marked a traffic direction sign, or carry panels (22) which are covered with a strongly reflective material to increase their visibility.
